Update

Wow I have been extremely busy this past month.  Started back on my degree and had tons of work to do.

This is just a quick update as I am off to Manchester today to get primary research for my new Lingerie Brief.  I'll write back and update it properly.

Project Madness

So over the past few months I should really have been focusing on my new project for the second year of my foundation degree in Fashion.  The basic idea is to pick two cultures that are opposite and combine them in garments.   o_O

When I first saw this I was thinking this can go either really fantastically or be an epic fail...seen as I've not done much, its tending towards epic fail.
So in my free time I have started my sketchbook; Drew out a few illustrations and stuck in some research and I think my ideas are starting to form in my head.

I chose the Punk era to clash with 1940's make-do-and-mend era.  Chose these before I knew Punk/Goth and 1940's prints were coming into fashion in Autumn/Winter.  Maybe I'm psychic.

Anyway, on topic, I found this video that sums up the 1940's a little, then found some 1940s burlesque that made me giggle.

To be honest, its her wiggling that made me giggle.

Dress I made!

I made this dress myself for my fashion course and my clothing company, FrockNRoll Clothing 

I think it turned out really well and am taking made-to-measure orders on them in various different fabrics. :)

They are available in UK sizes 6-32.

Prices vary so comment me for any more details or if you would like quotes on different coloured fabrics or anything. :)

Tired of having Dry & Damaged Hair?

I know I sure was!

I have dyed my hair crazy colours since the age of 14 and I've never really had any trouble with it, mainly because I was never afraid to hack it all off once it was in a dry state.

Recently I've found a hairstyle I like and didn't want to ruin but I wanted bright red hair.  I bleached it three times to get it from Black to vibrant red...BIG mistake =/

It started snapping off in my hands and when I brushed it, it was a chewing gum consistency. Pure awful.

SO I decided I should probably leave it after dying it back dark, and I now wear wigs. (I recommend Geisha Wigs...they have epic ones!)

Now, a miracle product I bought.....

Osmo Colour Mission - Around £4.00

I use it once a week and leave it on for 15minutes.  My hair feels weightless after it and is in lovely condition.  I really recommend buying it.  I did, however, buy it from a shop in Manchester next to Afflecks Palace (Pauls Hair World) which has sadly now burnt down but my guess is they will sell it in Julia's opposite or in the indoor market.  Failing that EBAY.

When I'm not working on my Blog, I love to make my own dresses and actually started my own Fashion label, FrockNRoll Clothing in 2012.  I specialise in vintage Replica clothing but I don't want this to limit my design abilities as I feel I have grown lots since the start.  I adore Kat Von D's clothing range and the clothing of local Manchester company Pretty Disturbia.  These are both influenced by tattoo designs with gothic elements creating something different.  I want to incorporate these elements within my work and would appreciate any feedback in posts relating to fabric, designs or just general market research.

Manchesters Alternative & Burlesque Fair!

As I love anything burlesque, Pin-up & Rockabilly, I was pleased to find out this event was returning to Manchester again, as I went last year and it was awe-inspiring.  

So this is what I got up to in Manchester yesterday…

The event founded in September 2011 was based in Sound Control, Manchester from 11am-5pm.  It brings together a collection of Alternative, Fetish, burlesque, vintage, Steampunk and Neo-Victorian products in one venue!

I arrived around 12ish and was greeted by lovely ladies giving out some nice freebie bags with flyers & event schedules (leopard print is always a winner).  There were also goodies up for winning straight from entering as well. 

On the first floor was a seating area and divine vintage tea shop surrounded by exquisitely dressed individuals.  I noticed a bar, a cupcake stall, and a fundraising stall whilst on my way up to the second floor.  I love how much effort everyone had made to dress for the occasion and how wonderful all the food stalls looked!

I made my way up to the second floor to find lots of stalls and the main events stage, however no event was due yet so I had a good look around the different boutiques (and obviously made lots of purchases...mainly fabric however).  I then went down to the bottom floor to find more unique boutiques.  I found the whole day incredibly enjoyable, the stall holders were all lovely and I would definitely recommend everyone attend who feels they would benefit from the atmosphere, especially to support small local businesses! 
Many thanks to Heresey n Heelz for presenting the program of burlesque events! One show of which I did manage to catch! It was inspiring, not to mention exciting! <3

Update

I've not posted for a while.  Been collecting research for my new brief from college so you can understand really.

Finished my first year of my foundation degree in Fashion with an average first :D Chuffed!
Keep checking back for more posts.  I promise I'll get on top of my posting haha.

Menswear

Apologies for not posting in a while, I have been on holiday.

As part of my evening Pattern Cutting course, I am required to produce blocks for myself and someone else.  To challenge myself, I decided to venture over into menswear and produce a bodice, shirt and trouser block for my boyfriend.

First I had to measure him up, but to start with I followed a set of sizes from a book based on his chest size.

After producing my front and back block, I then had to draw around it so I weighed it down and added any seam allowances neccessary.
















I then cut around it, sewed it together and tried it on my model.  It will require taking in on the sides a little but it was overall a good fit.


The next block for me to make is a sleeve.

War Museum

For my new Project I had to collect primary research & in fashion photography is the favoured medium to do this in.  I took some images within the War Museum in the Lowry Centre, Salford of any clothing I could find and anything else I found inspiring which I could include within my work.
